Search Bing Customise

Advanced Search enables you to enter your own keywords but be careful, entering them incorrectly could result in Advance Search no longer working.

You need to enter keywords with a keyword, followed by a comma, followed by a space and then the website address. One entry/keyword per line. Don't worry of the line wraps around. The space isn't required but it does make reading your keyword list a little easier.

Your keywords can have spaces such as "IP ADDRESS". If possible though, only use one word and usually if you make it as short as possible, it will be faster for you to enter. It doesn't matter if you use upper case, lower case, or mixed case for your keywords, but the website address may require you to enter the case correctly.

Save
Click Save to save any changes you've made to your keyword list. This does not close the screen.

Clear
Click Clear to delete all keywords. Are you really sure you want to do this? There is no need to save after performing a clear.

Close
Click Close to close the Customise screen. Note this does not save anything. If you've made changes make sure you save first.

Email Custom List
After saving changes to your custom list, you can use the link Email Custom List to email yourself a copy of the custom list. This is handy when using multiple browsers on multiple devices. Just email a copy of the custom list to yourself and copy and paste the list into the other browsers.

TIPS

Enter in the website address including the http:// or https:// section. With the website address you can go to the site or page and copy the website address from the address area in the browser. You can then paste the website address into this form if that makes entering the website address easier.
If the website address contains spaces, replace the spaces with %20. There may be other special characters but the space is the most common one which could cause a problem.
For extra flexibility, you can also pass a single value to the website address, by adding the value after the keyword. The best way to do this is to do a search using, let's say the word "TEST". For example go to Word Check at http://www.australian-dictionary.com.au/wordcheck/ and type TEST as the word and then press Submit. The website address that appears in the address bar is http://www.australian-dictionary.com.au/wordcheck/?word=TEST (plus two more parameters). Replace the word TEST with {%s} and this becomes the website address to use with the keyword. Word Check is already included in Advanced Search (except for search engines built for clients) with the keyword W.
Your custom keyword and website list is stored locally on your computer in what is called a cookie. You should make a copy of your custom keywords and website list and save it somewhere. Sometimes you need to clear your browser's history and doing so could delete the cookie and your keyword/website list. If you have a copy somewhere safe, you can quickly copy and paste the list back into this screen.
Hundreds of keywords are already defined such as the major companies Australians use, however, if you want to overwrite the keyword with the site you prefer you can. Your keyword will replace the default keyword.
Before creating your own keyword test to see if the keyword is already used by entering the keyword as the search criteria. If you go directly to the search engine results (e.g. Google or Bing), then the keyword isn't defined.
Keep in mind we do define new keywords from time to time and if you're already using the keyword, you won't be able to use the default keyword/website we define unless you change or delete the keyword you've defined.
If you have multiple computers or devices and want to use the same keyword list across devices, take a copy of the keyword list and email it to yourself. You can then copy and paste the list into the Customise option on each device.
